Default Re : Problems setting up testing site

Hello

I am working from 'Beginning Dreamweaver MX 2004. I am using Mac OSX 2.8. I have a static site originally set up using HotMetal 6.0 on Windows. I have imported this into Dreamweaver, and set up a testing site for it on my personal computer. This works. I did this by following your book.

I used what I thought the same procedure to set up a testing site for the cookingplace site. The testing site appears in Dreamweaver, and seems to be okay. However, if I try to test a page, it shows me a file that I created in a previous session with the book. This is at .../Wroxsite/index.htm. The new file seems to be recorded one step back up the ladder as .../Wroxsiteindex.htm.

I have tried configuring the site in Dreamweaver, both by rewriting the address in the box (it appears as ...:Wroxsite:, and I have substituted '/' for ':' - and then changed it back again when that didn't work) and by clicking on the navigation folder and going down to the correct folder. This makes no difference.

Can anyone indicate what I am doing wrong?

Thank you

Timothy Mason

Hi Timothy,

Can you show us the settings for the Local, Remote and Testing server tabs of the Site Definition dialog for your site?

Cheers,

Imar

Hello Imar

Thank you for the reply. I have now traced down the problem and feel extremely stupid. What I was seeing was an earlier version of the file that I had made and then replaced. However, Firefox repeated the earlier version. Refreshing the page brought up the correct version. It does seem a little bizarre that this did not happen automatically when I hit F12 - and in fact it does seem that usually F12 cleans out the earlier page, but for some reason best known to itself did not do so on this occasion - and persisted in not doing so for a large number of trials.

sorry to have wasted your time

BTW, I have worked through the first three chapters of the book and am finding it clear, comprehensible and informative

Best wishes

Timothy Mason

Haha, I know what you mean. This is indeed a known problem, where pressing F12 does not open a new browser windows, but where you get the focus on an existing window. Very irritating problem.

I usually close all open browser windows before I use the Preview in Browser window functionality to avoid this nuisance....

I am glad you like the book.

Cheers,

Imar
