Doesn't that just mean that your account doesn't have sufficient permissions on the remote machine? From your descriptions, it seems it does work locally, but not on the remote machine, right?

Is your account allowed to access the remote database folder when you're on the Web server?

I am not 100% sure, but this could be a delegation issue where your account information cannot be transferred from the Web Server to the File Server. You may need to enable Kerberos to allow the delegation of security credentials over the network from machine B to C. Check out this page for a bit more background about the various security mechanisms in IIS:

Now I have this error message when I tested the connection:
*Unrecognized database format '\\networkPath\directory\file.mdb'.

Even though the file is okay when I made a copy of it. Any ideas why?

Imar, no worries. It is clear now to me that it's NOT a technical issue at all! I've made a copy of the file and have no problems with it.

Your knowledge, skills as well as coaching abilities is of enormous value, my friend.

I hope you will continue for a long long time.

thanks for everything.

Right, does this mean your problems are fixed? Including this one:

Yep. Something about how the file/folder has been configured for security purposes has messed up access into it.

When I copied exactly the same file onto my remote/testing machine, I have no problems with multiple users.

so c'est tout.
they lived happily ever after...

but wait, there's more, i'm going start another topic because it's another different error this time.

thanks again.
