Default iTunes App Store development

I'm a hobbyist, and I have in mind a new wrinkle on a simple flashcard app, which I'd like to put out via iTunes' App Store for 99¢. Is Xcode the best tool, or DashCode? Do I need to learn C, Objective C, and Cocoa to do it - or is AppleScript Studio up to the job all by itself?
