Default Remote File Viewer doesn't connect to VM

I managed to follow the steps up to chapter 8. I built a new os with the Media Player and now want to follow the exercises in chapter 9 (Remote Tools). I added KITL, enabled Profiling and added the Media Player files and rebuilt the solution. I downloaded the image to my Virtual Machine and now follow the steps to use the Remote File Viewer.

I only manage up to Step 2 (p106) which shows the "Connecting to device" dialog (Fig 9-4). It stays there and never connects. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or is it not possible to use the Remote File Viewer with a Virtual Machine?
