Just like upstair said.
I like C++ and Java.
Java is an immaculate OOP language, but C++ is base.

C++ also is OOP....but it also is structure language...in order to be a expert or master of C++, you need more than 18 months...18 months is just for mastering the particular area for you to do that such of system, application or project....but if you wan be a master or expert in any C++ area(example: win32, MFC)...you need more than 18 months....coz C++ hard to understand it...but for java, it more easier than C++...but for me i like C++ than java...

hi,

there is no need to learn c++ before learning java. absolutely no need. if you are starting from scratch and if you dont know c++, that is good, start from Java. Java is more pure oop supporting language than c++.

Java is excellent in web. c++ is unbeatable in fast, system programmings. This is my opinion.

Wasup! Anyway, Java is like crippled C++. Not as much efficiency or power as C++. The only thing I like about Java is that You can develop applets and it's less source code even if not as effective.

C/C++ all the way.

P.S. At least in my opinion.

I think you must have some Objest Oriented programming experience like C++ to have to good time in Java. Also if you know the object oriented concepts in depth then c++ or Java you can learn it easily.

If you dont know hot to Program come to

Java == simpler, slower, more portable, easier to learn, difficult to mess up, higher level
C++ == extremely complex, portable-ish (if you stick to ansi standards), difficult to learn, easier to mess up, lower level

Java is more like elegant C++ than "crippled C++". You don't have to do memory management. You can't override operators. There's not as much of a kludgey feel to it. C++ is widely used for systems programming (though c is more widely used in unix environments), C++ lets you develop bad habits(i.e. program in an unstructured, non-object orientated way). However, C++ does tend to be faster.

Expect to spend 2 years to learn C++ properly. 6 months or so for Java.

To get basic concepts I think first you go for the C++ and then for Java.
After you are bit familiar with OOPS you go for Java in deep. Java is more compatible to learn as it is easy, have lots of feature, enhancements also going on day by day, increasing industry demands to it,etc.
