richard,

you are too kind YOU are the one that did it. i just knocked dw over the head after following your lead. [and strangely enough, the site is just now loading correctly for me]

thank-you very much for being so patient. i do realize how painful this must have been for you :-)

but because of this, i do have a 400% handle on how css is supposed to work. [and sure wish i hadn't forked out the money for dw!]

again, thanks for spending all this time with me.

Hey, the pleasure is all mine! Not painful at all, fixing code for me is like the people you know that can't resist cleaning up when they enter a dirty room. What do they call that? Obsessive compulsive? lol! Anyway I'm glad you're learning something!
That's what we're here for. ;)

Regards,
Rich

on the web side, what i don't understand is, why does my site look like this in dwmx2004? __ http://www.katzidesigns.com/bms_site/site_in_dw.jpg

and how am i EVER going to learn, if that's what i'm faced with?

That's a good question, I dunno, I've never used Dreamweaver, Imar is our resident Dreamweaver expert - I'm sure he's still listening in :). It looks like their CSS needs some polishing.

>and how am i EVER going to learn, if that's what i'm faced with?
I've never been a big fan of WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editors.. they drive me nuts, give me a plain text editor and a box of cheez-its instead!

Rich

rich,

if i was to switch [and walk away from b$700 i forked out for dwmx2004, not to count the b$4000 for the upgraded machine just to run the darn software] what cheap plain text editor should i get? for a g5? i was looking at rabbit awhile ago for css. it's supposed to be pretty good.

question - if you code on a text editor HOW to you see how it'll look? just with the browser AFTER the code? if so, i'm not sure my blond head would be able to get around that method. not [after seeing what the top of dw can do], that the alternative is any better ...

Hey,

I was impatient when I was first learning how to use Microsoft Access for the first time:D. My life experience has been such that if you exercise extreme patience with stuff like CSS, you'll eventually find it to be real easy and you will go far.

Hmmmmm.....Now that I think of it, I think I should change my nickname to "The Wise Man":D.

dear mr. wiseman,

<<My life experience has been such that if you exercise extreme patience with stuff like CSS, you'll eventually find it to be real easy and you will go far.

my problem is time. i'm running a business. well, two actually. and trying to learn css inbetween phone calls with clients, design, dealing with printers, and panics at the end of the month with cl.

and patience has NEVER been one of my strong points. yesterday will do just fine :-)

We're here to help busy people. :-) Like Ben said, this forum and the HTML Code Clinic are the places to get CSS help.

DWMX's code view is like a plain text editor, except that when you change something in design view, you can look at the code view and see what DWMX did to make it look the way you wanted it. It's a big part of how I learned CSS. :-) I wouldn't go straight to a plain text editor if you don't know CSS very well.

that's an excellent point. thanks

<<I wouldn't go straight to a plain text editor if you don't know CSS very well.

i was wondering how that would work. with me being graphically inclined rather than code.

just give me pretty pictures so i can SEE :-)

thanks for the advice.
