crashing problems with dwmx2004 to dw4
well, i'm back for more, only this is a dw problem, not css. the css will have to wait until the cl site is sparkling new.
the creative latitude site is updated by four people. we all started out with dw4. now two of us have switched to dwmx2004 and all heck is breaking loose.
all the files updated wtih dwmx200 are crashing the dw4's.
i checked it on my powerbook which is still loaded with the old version. tried to sync and it crashed my dw. tried to download just one folder and it did the same. one time it flashed that the file names were too long.
any suggestions?

Catherine:
Do you have file check in/check out turned on? That may be causing the problem. I have heard of incompatibilities with file locking. The basic HTML files shold not cause a problem

charles,
yes, the check in and check out is checked.
if not, it'd be a nightmare.
so, are you advising to NOT have this checked?

Unfortunately, I never used DW4 and do not know its quirks. However, logically, the only files that are proprietary are the lock files. It is worth a try.

There may be things going on with the way DW caches the site files also. That is how it keeps track of links and assets.
Why not update a;; the machines to 2004? That would make the most sense.

charles,
well, i tried your suggestion of turning off the check in check out feature in dw4. and made sure the trial files were checked in. it crashed anyway. twice.
also, dwmx2004 has made a folder in my newest folder, called _baks. do you know what it's for?

because we are all independent designers, donating our time to creative latitude. only one is a web designer, the other three have dw because they do a little bit. i'll request, but not sure it'll go over really well. especially as one of them would have to buy a whole new computer to run dwmx2004. just like i did.

Catherine:
I just jumped onto the Macromedia site and came across this Tech note:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/dr...ity_mx2004.htm
Apparently there is a patch that will fix some of the extension incompatibilities. However, from what they indicate, not all.
You might want to check the technote lisings on this topic at:
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/se...0compatibility
Are you using any extensions?

Catherine:
I just spent some time on the technotes and there seems to be a whole host of potential incompatabilities; most of which are not easily fixable.
While I will agree that the cost of upgrading could be costly, the potential cost of not could be even greater.
I wish I had an easy answer for this and, perhaps, one of the other listers who have used the older version will have a solution.
I will send an email off to my contacts at MM and see if they can offer a suggestion.
Hope all is well,
