Default regarding tables

Hi

My Problem is that when the length of the text inside a table is on the increase , the width of the table automatically increases, now I want the width of the table to be constant and the text inside the table should be wraped(goto next line on reaching the end of table)
How do I do It?please give code!!
thankz
Praveen

Hi Praveen,

The problem with table widths is that the browser will see the width as a recommendation. This means that when it needs more room for content, it will just take more room.

There are a couple of ways around this. You can use CSS to force the width of the table columns. Alternatively, you can add spacer images to the first or last cell of each column to force the width. Using spacer images is considered "bad practice" and "old skool" but if you need to support older browsers as well, it's a viable solution, IMO.

Take a look at the following article:

http://www.evolt.org/article/Liquid_Tables/20/2321/

You may want to follow the 4 links / examples on this page as they show you a couple of solutions.

If that doesn't help, please post your table with content, so we can take a look at it.

Cheers,

Imar
