Bring back the purple folders!
The red's too garish for the color announcing there's new posts in the folder. The lavender was more soothing

Sorry to say that the Wrox brand does not offer me many color choices to choose from.(Red, Yellow, Black, White)
But you have to admit the Red Icons sure got your attention :D

If you're going to design the site around the Wrox colours, might I suggest that all text be in Wrox White

Just a thought here. I've been to many different development site forums and forums for other companies with brands and company colors, and most of them do realize that, on the web, you can base your site on your brand colors and still use other colors for usability and so on. As someone stated, are you going to change the text to white? The hyperlinks to yellow or red?
Incorporating the brand into a web site is important, it's also important to understand usability and not get too silly about it at the same time.

I agree - The red folders are disgusting - I thought my video card had died and gone to hell the first time they popped up.
While Wrox may have red, yellow, black and white as their branding colors, it doesn't mean that their website has to look exactly like one of their books.
And to further this argument - posters on p2p don't have their photo/avatar next to all their posts, as the writers do on the covers.
But if you insist on using only those colors - then I insist that the ["green"] tag be stricken from the forum, the dropshadow behind the p2p.wrox.com logo be changed from grey to yellow, and your style sheet change the text color from darkblue to something a bit more branded.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world - those who understand binary - and those with friends

I think there are more important things than focusing on the color of a folder.

Hal, I think you're being a little disingenous here. The focus is not really on the colour of the folder, but the branding of the site, and whether or not people like looking at it. And anyway, if we are focussing on folder colours, then it obviously is important to us :) And, if you're going to start using phrases like 'more important things' then, yes I'd agree - Global Warming, world poverty, and whether or not England can beat Australia in the rugby all come to mind - but this is the Wrox feedback forum, and you're reading our feedback!

LOL!
Chris- to be clear- I am a moderator now... But I am still just a user of the system in most cases... I am not paid by wiley.. I am just trying to help out... So what I say isn't Wiley's opinion..
Perhaps they changed folder color to distract us from lack of e-mail reply..
On that note, The requirements doc will be posted soon... I look forward to everyone's ideas.

To all who don't like the red folders.
I would be willing to change the folders one more time to get rid of the red. But I don't want to change it to often or so please click on the links below and tell me what you think of this simpler style. I only want to change the style one more time so people don't get confused looking for the an ever changing icon. If anyone has any better icons they need to be 15x15 and I need 3 versions; regular, locked, and hot. Whatever style people like the best we will use. I would also prefer not to go back to the purple unless we REALLY can't come up with something better.
