Is there a maximum number of subscriptions that we can have or can we have unlimited subscriptions? I noticed earlier (after I went to check on my subscriptions that I have some old ones that I think I should get rid of

There are no limits to the number of subscriptions you can have.

I might suggest that you look at subscribing at the Forum level if it makes sense for you. If you are interested in most topics in a forum, it will be much easier for you to manage your subscriptions if you subscribe to an entire forum - rather than individual topics.
