I think that'll be a great thing to have, even if you are a good speller, it's very handy, funny most BB's don't have one.

If people have noticed my spelling has improved it's because I've been testing out the spell checker for a couple of days.. It's a good thing :)

Any chance it's possible to disable the spell checker inside of [code] and [url] blocks?

Jeff,

The spell checker is already disabled inside of [code] blocks (and inside of [quote] blocks if you are reply-quoting). Yet another good reason for people to put the [code] tags around their source code - unless they like lots of spelling errors popping up! :D

I'll look into excluding text inside of the [url] tags.

Thanks,

I could have sworn I've seen some of my code blocks painted in yellow, but maybe I'm dreaming. (or I forgot to /code them...

(Hey, how do you say openbracketcodeclosebracket in forumspeak? :D)

Jeff,

The spell checker won't check words inside of code blocks, but it will highlight them if the same word was found misspelled outside of the code block.

Also, it was easy to put in so now the spell checker will ignore words inside of [url] tags.

Brackets are magic. I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you! ;)

However, it might look something like this:

[brace]code[/brace]

Ah. Good; I'm not losing my mind. I know I've written a block of code, dutifully enclosing it in [code] blocks, and then referred to a variable, say, outside the block. I knew I had seen spelling errors highlighted inside the block.

Thanks for clearing that up.

And thanks for the fast response on the [URL] blocks.

Hey Bruce,

Are you sure about spell check being disabled inside a [quote] block?

I just did a post, quoted the original, and the 'Originally posted by <poster>' line had the poster's name highlighted as an error. Could it be because this line is inside an [i] block? Perhaps the code is forgetting it's inside a [quote] when it encounters an [i]?

(These meta tag discussions sure are a lot of typing... :D)

Jeff,

Quoted sections definitely are ignored in the spell check - but only when you do a topic or reply quote (when the forum automatically quotes the original for you). If you do a normal reply and do the quoting yourself then that quote will be spell checked. The logic being that if you are quoting someone else's post, it doesn't make sense to spell check it. If you are writing an original post and choose to make use of quoting (by explicitly using the [quote] tags), then spell checking is invoked since you might be typing the text in the quote.

Also like the code sections, any misspelled words outside the ignored quote section will also be highlighted inside the quote. Actually the highlighting routine doesn't exclude any parts of the post - only spell checking code has these exclusions.

As far as I can tell the spell checking is working correctly. If you find an example that's not, let me know.
