Default Refreshing Frames Behaviours using F5 (IE only)

I have been forced to create a page using frames. This is a technique I have mananged to steer clear of up until now. I have a simple issue that makes no sense to me.

Why does an F5 refresh clear any querystring values that are pased from a navigation frame to the main frame? (Details : ASP page - one page, two frames, a simple managed image library, same behaviours in IE 5.5 and 6.0, page is for a SOE running IE 5.5 and 6.0) If I refresh either frame the QS value remains. Does F5 refresh the page holding the <frameset> tags and both frames within the framed window maybe? Is there are client side solution to this?

TYIA
