Default Which version of java do I need?

I need help finding out what version of java and what compilers would be best for me. I have just started studying that wrox book beginin java by ivor horton and it says it covers jdk1.1
I run winXP

Please could sum1 tel me what java version, compiler or whatever i need would be best for me and where i can get em.

Hi,

U can select the version of compiler u need, i think u better work on the latest version of jdk. u can get the compiler from www.javasoft.com
