Default the clipboard

when using swing, if you do a copy and paste type action it uses some kind of java clipboard. so the contents of the clipboard from the operating system are ignored. i wish to make it so that when you copy something from my java app, it will go to the global OS clipboard and then i can paste into another app. or if i copy something from another app, i can paste it into my java app.
