Default Install Attempt to Upgrade Dual Boot w/ Sep HD

Hello,

I must first say (after which you will soon find out) that I am a Linux neophyte. I am attempting to upgrade from Linux 7.1 to Linux 9. My system was set up by someone other than myself to offer the capability to boot from a Windows HD, a Linux HD, or DOS. The HD's are separate.

When attempting to boot from the CD and install a Wrox Linux 9 Publisher's Edition, I am not offered the "Upgrade" selection -- just the "New Installation" choice. It seems that the CD-Boot does not recognize the 2nd HD (for the Linux OS). I have entered the CMOS setup (it's a Dell), and the only HD option in the boot sequence selection is HD C:. I tried turning "OFF" the Primary Drive 0 in CMOS to force the CD boot to find the Linux HD, but that didn't seem to work either.

Does anyone have an idea how I can get a "bootable" Linux 9 CD to recognize a previous Linux (7.1) on a separate hard drive?

Thank You for your consideration.

Hello

Try to get a normal distribution from a download site from Redhat and make a ISO cut to the CDs. The education version might be given with the upgrade version so that it won't confuse those never had Linux before.

I am not sure about this since I have not "buy" Linux before. :D

Thanks

That's good advice. Thank You.

You're right. This Linux 9 CD came with a book I bought on the subject. It could be oversimplified w/r/t a canned installation procedure. Oh well, but then again, I'm happy to have gotten a pretty good book on the subject, too. Thanks Again --
