One other thing to consider is, make sure that the ASPNET user is not blocked.

I had that user blocked on my machine. I was following all the advice from this page but I was not getting anywhere. Until I discovered that the user account was actually blocked.

Once I unblocked it, everything worked as it should.

Yes, check to ensure that your ASPNET account is not locked out! Just select Properties on the user.

I had the same problem and just discovered that, mysteriously, my ASPNET account was locked out. I definitely did not do this myself, so perhaps a sysadmin or install script did it.

Restart IIS if necessary and you should be good to go.

I am running Win XP Servives pack 2.
IIS 5.1 with ASP.NET 2.0
MS SQL Server Express Edition with Report Services.
Windows authentication to validate users to visit some web pages.

Also very important.
Try not to run aspnet_regiis to uninstall ASP.NET from IIS
and install it back when you use reportviewer control
on any of WEB pages.

You might get Object or reference are not set error for reportviewer control.
Work around - Reinstall MS Report Services and publish all reports again
