Default MMC cannot open file...

Hi,
I am running Sql Server 2000 on Windows XP Professional. When I open Enterprise Manager I get this error,

"MMC Cannot open file C:\......Sql Server Enterprise Manager.MSC This may be because the file does not exist, its not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you may not have sufficient access rights to the file".

Can someone please give me some info how to fix this.

Thanks

Windows XP does support SQL Server 2000, I am currently using it successfully.

Your issue may be a rights issue to where you are installing the application.

I too am running SQL on XP in a dev environment

You can only run the developer edition of SQL on XP (the £40 one from amazon) XP does not support the full edition.

Hi,
I have fixed this problem. I logged out and loged in as some other user, and it works fine for that user. The problem was in my Profile, Windows XP keeps a copy of your MMC file in Windows profiles directory, I just deleted that file and it worked.

Regards.

Did you verify the file was there and you have rights to it?

XP works with win2k if you have certain versions of XP. I think it requires a developer licence or above. But it won't run the enterprise version for sql 2k.

1-Select Start - Run.
2-At the Open prompt enter: mmc
3-Click OK
4-Select File - Add/Remove Snap-in...
5-Click Add...
6-Select Microsoft SQL Enterprise Manager
7-Click Add, then Close
8-Click Ok to return to the mmc.
9-Select File - Save As...
10-Delete or rename the original (offending) file out the way.
Save the new msc file as C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\BINN\SQL Server Enterprise Manager.MSC
