Default ebook discount offers for hardcopy buyers?

Hey all!!! I've been purchasing several books from multiple publishers, and I wanted to share an offer one of the other publishers currently promotes.

They offer an ebook version for $10, once you've bought the hardcopy. What I like about this , is I really do like traditional book reading when I'm at the home office, but when I travel, for a small cost, I get to take my library with me on my laptop.

It was pretty clever the way they got to validate you as a hardcopy owner. You had a minute or so to find an exact line of text from somewhere in the book and submit it on the website.

Anyway, I love the Wrox books, and would definitely be willing to fork over an extra $10 to get my hardcopy available in ebook format.

Please let me know what you think!!

Smile Agreed!

I desperately want to read the WROX books I've purchased (physically) while commuting from NJ to NYC and back. Try being squeezed in the train an opening a book - it's next to impossible.

I've already paid $44.95 for your book. Even with the 35% off code, asking me to pay another $29.00 to get my book in a different format seems quite excessive. At half that price, and I'd probably jump on it. At $10, I'm all in. And if free, well, I'll be a long time customer.

Books by Manning Publications (www.manning.com) include a bound-in sheet with a set of codes. After following the instructions on their website, punching in two sets of codes as specified, you get emailed the book in .PDF, .mobi and .epub formats. Cool - but I's be happy with the .PDF alone. To protect their rights, in each of the files, the system inserts a footer at the bottom of each page with you name and email address. Seems like a fair tradeoff to me. The other cool thing they did was to also include the previous edition of my book. Nice!

I'm also an Apress (www.apress.com) fan - with their $10 eBook (.PDF) editions of the book you already own, and their daily $10 eBook of the day offer. I've purchased over $180 of eBooks this way.

Hope all at WROX can come to a good decision on this soon!

I applaud your DRM-Free, multiple format publication of ebooks. I prefer to conserve resource by downloading instructional books and I like taking my reference books with me when I am working at a client's place or traveling.

However, I heartily concur about the upgrade issue. I just bought a Kindle and can't afford to upgrade all my Wrox books to mobi/kindle formats at 35% off the printed copy list price. I like to have print copies of reference books because they are easier to use when working at my desk while the Kindle is easier to toss in my attache case.

Apress upgrades for $10 after answering a question about the book and O'Reilly upgrades for $4.99. Please find a way to make this happen.

I heartily agree with all of the previous posts - expecting me to shell out another 35% for the electronic version sems greedy. I've already paid fairly dearly for the hardcopy, which grants me rights to read and use the data. Providing an inexpensive electronic version seems to be reasonable. Other publishers often provide inexpensive electronic versions, or even include the source and e-book version on a CD! If rox maintains a deaf ear to this issue, I may have to look at other publishers in the future.

Default ePub with print version!

I wholeheartedly agree. I've bought expensive wrox books and expected to be able to download ePub verslons for free, like Manning offers.

Please make this possible, i think it's not ok to ask big money again for digital verslons.
