Wow, that is pretty neat. It's amazing how that's not done in flash. When I get some time I think I might implement it--hmmm, where to put it...

I totally agree..

I have spent the last 10-15 minutes looking through some of the URLs posted here. It has been quite interesting looking at the range of sites people have created and the differences between than these and the original TBH site.

For people looking for a personal site I think TBH is a great solution because it is easy to make simple changes and get up and running.

That being said the architecture if both flexible and documented well in the book making more extensible changes realistic.

I started developing in VB6 when i was at College and now with vb.net. I don't think I will ever change to C# (although the syntax is not too disimilar) but I still bought the book as it gives great insight on creating multi tier applications - and this can be applied in any application.

I downloaded the vb.net version of the site but decided to create it from scratch using my own namespaces and custom properties/methods (where applicable) but using the book and example site as a guide.

I found this a great learning experience both in development but also in my understanding of TBH strucuture. In the end I was able to add my own features (Resources Provider, SEO Solution) in good time.

The site I have listed below is one I created for a family member and does not really bare any visual similarities to TBH but it is built using design techniques learnt from the book.

Many posts I have seen refer to difficulties with CSS and changing TBH appearance. For the site below I used the CSS from The Small Business Starter Kit downloadable from http://www.asp.net

This just goes to show how adaptable TBH structure is. I am now working on my own site (for my freelance web design/marketing business) so hope to post the URL of that soon. This will be a completely unique design (just splicing up in photoshop as i type this).

Anyway the URL is http://www.channelpumps.com

It would be interesting to hear peoples comments on how they used the book/tbh whether it be just a personal site based on the standard site or any adaptions they have made.

Cheers

Retro

Hello retroviz, your site has been added. And I totally agree with you about TBH and flexibility.

And about VB.NET vs. C#...well, to each his own. I personally enjoy C# mostly because of its more mathematical syntax, as opposed to VB's oftentimes wordy syntax... i.e. "End Sub" vs "}"

I think many programmers stick with the language they grew up with anyway, or at least languages similar to it.

Long time visitor, new poster here ;) I finally have a site to contribute. I'm pretty well versed in asp.net (thanks in part to this book) and I hope to be a great help in this forum in the future.

Well, here it is: http://www.flixgadget.com

The best way to explain it is to visit it, and maybe sign up :-)

As you can see, it's one of the visually divergent sites, but the underlying BLL/DAL principles have TBH written all over it. The videos and comments are analogous to Marco's article pages, etc. One major underlying difference (among several others) is the mismatch between asp.net's built-in profile provider and a social site, so I used the TableProfileProvider instead (http://www.asp.net/downloads/sandbox...vider-samples/). I've suggested this to another poster here as well; it's pretty nifty.

Feel free to contact me about the site using it's contact page, or also contact me through this forum.

what's your mood?

slatergator: That has to be the most unique UI I've seen on a TBH site. Very nice work!

Thanks Jim; It is somewhat of a mutant, since over time I continually extended the basic modules of TBH, which is what I believe Marco intended. There is, as you can see, plenty of features on my site that are not in the book ;)

slatergator,

Wow! flixgadget.com is a pretty slick site! I have to concur with Jim that it’s probably the most unique site on here. That myflix feature is quite interesting. I just signed up and got this video from myflix: http://www.flixgadget.com/video22654.aspx – I’m sure p2p members will get a kick out of it!

P.S. I’m quite curious in how the myflix feature works.
