Version of Dreamweaver
Hi,
I am new to DW and have just started the book "beginning Dreamweaver MX", and I have found I can only download DW 8. It seems to be different, is it going to be a problem working through the book? I'd appreciate any advice.
Thanks

Hi there,
There are some major differences between DW MX and DW 8, especially when it comes to CSS behavior.
So, the first section of the book (TheCookingPlace) will be hard to follow, as things behave different, and have been put in other locations.
The other two sections are probably easier. They use a lot of ASP Server Behaviors that haven't been changed for a few version.
You'll probably have a lot of digging to do in the DW help and available panels to find out where stuff has moved, or why things behave differently that described in the book.
Is there no "Previous Versions" on the Macromedia site?

Hi Imar,
thanks for the swift response. I realized there had to be quite a few differences, and tried to access DW MX. The Macromedia site would not permit me to do that (as far as my abilities went - any ideas?). Alternatively, do you guys have an upgrade for DW8? I have managed to get to the workspace and made the first webpage, but for some reason I could only view it from the internal F12 or cont F12 for netscape. The http protocol link was not working, even though my ISS server was active on the status check. So i'm at a bit of a loss. The page in in the root directory as is the ISS sever. Any further tips?
Thanks again
Dave

What address does the browser display when you press F12?? Does it start with http://localhost or with a path pointing to your local file system?
Check the settings for the Site through the Sites panel and then post them here. Maybe you didn't set up the site correctly....

Hi Imar,
this is the address when I hit F12:
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\TMPaji3jqjiby.htm
Have I set up the site wrongly?
Thanks
Dave

Yes, it looks like that. If you have a site set up to use IIS, pressing F12 should result in an address starting with http://localhost/
Can you post your site settings?
Cheers,
Imar
P.S. No, there is no DW 8 version / upgrade of your book. Only an MX and MX 2004 version.

While typing this post, I was listening to: Side Of The Road by Beck (Track 12 from the album: Sea change) What's This?
