Default right click of table node from server explorer

This isn't a show stopper for me, but I'm perplexed why this doesn't work for me. The book has you set up your SQL Server db by browsing to it in the Visual Studio.Net 2003's Server Explorer, then you right click the tables and are given a New Table option. I don't get that option though, I'm limited to Properties and Refresh. Any ideas? Again, I easily worked around this... but I'm wondering if there is a configuration issue somewhere?

Thanks

McSlain,

Which version of SQL Server are you using? This problem sounds like you might be using MSDE and not actual SQL Server. Either that or you do not have the appropriate permissions to create tables, stored procedures, and views in the database that you are connecting to.

I think the ability to add new tables depends on whether the SQL Server is on the same machine as VS.NET or on the network. So, local installations work, remote ones don't.

Not 100% sure though...

Cheers,

Imar

Imar's theory is compatible with my experience; I can create / change / delete on local MSDE server, but not on remote SQL Server. Not an authorization issue either, I use the same login to connect an MS-Access project to the same database on the remote SQL Server, and I can do anything! In fact, this has been my workaround.

If you are using SQL Server Standard edition or above, you can remotely create tables from VS. This however may not work if you are using MSDE. You need to check your permissions in the database you are trying to connect to across the network to ensure you have access rights to create objects such as tables.
