Default Starting mysql

I using window XP profressional with IIS as web server and i have installed php and mysql on my system. However, when i go to my dos and type C:\mysql\bin: mysql
it give me the result
can' t connect to mysql server on localhost 10061

Do i need any additional software like phpmyadmin or sql control station to do the link or is it something to do with DSN?

What happens when you start the MySQL admin control panel? Can you see that the server is running?
I think you can find that tool in the Bin folder for MySQL.

Uninstall and delete the files of the MYSQL. Then goto www.mysql.com/downloads and download the latest mysql in windows installation. Install it and go thru the steps. That will get it started the easiest way then I would recommend finding a gui to make databasing easier for ya. Enjoy
