Hi all,

I just finished working on a website that I started a while ago and now, I'm in the process of uploading it to Angelfire. I got the first part of the Remote Info set up ok. Problem is, I can't figure out what to key in for the host directory.

My website URL is at http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/terragenvault537

Can anybody figure out the host directory that needs to be entered?

I guess you'll need to read the Angelfire helppages (RTFM ;) ) to find out for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if the remote directory was /.

On an FTP server, it's possible to map user accounts to physical locations. These physical locations can then be mapped as / (root) for an individual account. So user xxx may see c:\data\webfiles\users\xxx as the root, while yyy will have c:\data\webfiles\users\yyy for example.

Thanks for the help. I found out that I had one missing character in the host directory entry so that's why I was having that problem. At any rate, I'm ok except for another thing. I got an "Access Denied" message twice when I tried uploading my files. Here's the full context of the message:

"An FTP error occurred - cannot open remote folder /nj4/terragenvault537. The file may not exist or there could be a permission problem"


Is there anything in Dreamweaver that I oculd do to have the program let me upload my site to Angelfire? I don't really want to hand-transfer all of the files unless I absolutely have to. Another option I have is I could get the WS_FTP program to upload my files. As it stands right now, I would not like to use either of those options unless I absolutely have to. As a matter of fact, my last resort would be to hand-transfer the files to my Website URL on Angelfire.

Any ideas?

Well, if I were you, I *would* use a tool like WS_FTP, just to check whether things are setup fine.

Dreamweaver uses a standard FTP protocol and standard settings. So, AFAICS, if it works in WS_FTP, it should work in Dreamweaver.

Moral of the story: I don't think Dreamweaver is causing the problem. Check out the Help section of AngelFire, check out your account settings and test them all in WS_FTP or any other FTP client.

If all works as expected, transfer the settings to Dreamweaver.

Bad news, Imar:

Angelfire Support said that they do not support uploading via Dreamweaver. Is there anyone out there that does? I'm getting really frustrated:(

In that case, Angelfire Support is either lying or incompetent, or they give you or your account special treatment ;)

I can set up an account with Angelfire and then use the Remote Info tab of Dreamweaver to connect to their FTP site without problems.

How do you connect? Using Servername/UserName? (both are required). What ftp server name do you use?

Did you check the (very helpful) help files and FAQs over at AngelFire?

I connect to my website with the User Name as nj4/terragenvault537. For the ftp server name, I use ftp.angelfire.com.

One more thing, Angelfire Support told me that Dreamweaver will encounter problems (which I know isn't true)

Right, that seems ok. And if you then set the Remote Folder to / as I explained in an earlier post, everything should work, right?

I can't believe using DW will give too much troubles. It's just using standard, protocol based FTP so I can't see the reasons for a problem. I could be wrong, though.
