I have to incorporate mysql into a site with a host that doesnt offer a database.

I'm new to databases... thats why I'm accustomed to using the simplicity of ipowerweb or mediatemple and their phpmyadmin interface.

What do I do now? Will a database hosted elsewhere work? Should they switch hosts? If you know about this stuff, please help.. I may not be asking the right questions!

Easiest may be to move hosts - you can sometimes get webhosts who allow you remote access to a database - but that would introduce a fair bit of network latency into your website (it'd have to go accross the internet to retrieve records). If you're not likely to get that many hits you're probably fine, but you'd still be paying twice!
