Default WIN XP PRO AND CAMERA DETECTION

Camera is SONY DSC-P31. WIN 2000 PRO sees it as a removable disk drive and shows up in a DRIVE LIST BOX. After long chat with SONY support, WIN XP PRO has to see it as a 'camera' which does not show up in a DRIVE LIST box. I just need to be able to have my app 'see' the camera and be able to move them over to the server. So how do I address the 'camera' so it functions as a removable drive? BTW, I don't have this problem with Olympus cameras, just this SONY. Thanks.

Well, finally figured out the problem myself. XP seems to assign everything not on the machine to the next drive letter, causing conflicts if a machine is on the network. Simple fix once you know it - CONTROL PANEL>>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>>COMPUTER MANAGEMENT>>STORAGE>>DISK MANAGEMENT then remap the camera drive to unique letter. It has to be plugged in when you do it so you can see it. Then it goes back to being as removable drive and all is well. Be sure the SONY camera is set to REGULAR USB not PTP. If you will be attaching other cameras with different drivers, they will have to be mapped to a different unique drive letter also.
