Hello!

I recently bought your book and think that this is a nice and neat little application. I am trying to install it and get it to work. I can run from Visual studio and do everything that it says it would but not in the installed one. I tried it two different ways - used your installation application and publish from within VS2005. The application does come up (http://localhost/bugbase) but cannot login. The db is in the AppData, the aspnet_Users table has all the default users + the ones I created when running in debug mode. Checked against posting http://p2p.wrox.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=43384.

Could you please help me to get it running..

Hi Vishy,

In the post you linked to, I describe how to recreate the roles from scratch. Once you have configured the application by setting the applicationName and then run the WSAT, you should always end up with working accounts as they are recreated.

Are you opening the right site in VWD? Are you sure the installed application has the correct config settings and are you really targeting that installation in VWD when creating the user accounts?

When I run WSAT I see all the working accounts that should be in there. Should I try recreating them from there?

How can I tell? I run in debug mode. So, is it possible that it might not be running the current application after all?

I published what seemed to be running ok. And when I access the website directly in the browser, I get the bugbase's login page except that it does not take any of the existing uid+passwords. I can see it in IIS default websites.

Yes, that way you can be sure you have the right accounts for the right application. You need to open the version that was installed by the Windows installer; probably under C:\inetpub\wwwroot\BugBase or something similar. Same as above; make sure you have made the necessary changes to web.config that belongs to the site; the one in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\BugBase.
