I'll have to work that one out in my head, but I do understand where your coming from, the site is looking ok but as i said the htm looks a lot cleaner than .jpg, just need to get my many many pics done for the site, as well as clean it all up to publish...

Hi Mike,

Yeah, had a good weekend. Hope yours was good too, with some progress in the book....

You can add backgrounds similar to how you put them in other documents. However, since the iframe results in a complete new document (with its own DOM etc), you shouldn't apply the style tag to the iframe, but to the document that lives inside the iframe:

This won't work:
<iframe src="SomePage.html" style="background-image: url(SomeImage.gif);" />

However, if you apply the style to an element in SomePage.html, it should work:

[SomePage.html]
<html>
  <head>
  </head>
  <body style="background-image: url(SomeImage.gif);">
    Some Content
  <body>
</html>

Hope this helps,

Imar

Hi Mike,

I had the same probs as you.I built up the complete "BB" but the completed as fig 14-5 was never achieved. I had the same result as you, with the main loogo and flash on view only (no boxes).
I also found errors in the book. I ended up completing a section and then checking it against the download version.
Imar kindly put me in touch with Todd Marks who wrote this part of the book. After a couple of Emails Marks asked me to send my database. He replied that he had received it okay, would check it over and get back to me.

This was months and months ago, I have never heard from him again, despite me reminding him at least two times.

My database was as per the downloaded database. I checked out letter by leter, dot by dot.

I never did get BB to work and I never heard from Marks again.

So if you do work out I would be very pleased to hear from you direct. my email is terryshaw@freeola.com

Good luck.
Terry

Hi Terry

I have totally completed the working site, I'm just putting the finishing touches to it, I have a lot of pictures to add, so taking some time to publish the web, as I said very early on, it was not proofread or tested, the database is, to me, a total false one as only frame1a actuly works, the database is 5 times larger than in the book. The lower 4 Frames now work, but it was hard to figue exactly what was needed. With a little help from Imar as you have read it didnt do it for me, but pointed me where I needed to go. The Site now is more or less totally working, Flash intro has been replaced with my own intro, done through a programme easier than Macromedia flash called SwishMax, which is a download trial version. If you want help, I will try, but remember I am no expect as Imar, but do have a working site!

regards
Mike

To all readers of thses pages.

After having spent over 2 months trying to build a new website from the MediaEdge site, even after all that has been said here about the poor editing of the Book, the site does actually work, but it seems to me to have been produced as a very simplified version (I might be wrong). There is an awfull lot to work out for yourself, but when this has been achieved, to me, it is a very worthwhile site to produce. So just keep at it and it will work out. Imar, even though in his own admission did not work on this part of the book, is a very helpfull contact to turn to. I STILL HAVE HAIR!!!

Good luck

Mike

Hi Mike,

Many thanks for your prompt reply. I'm glad to hear you got BB working. I'm not surprised about the database.

It seems you were as frustrated as me. But after 8 months of banging my head against Wrox's brick wall and getting no help,I gave up.
However I would love to hear from you again with your email address, so I can reply in person so to speak.
My reason for the project was also the to my pics on the web. So I look forward to seeing yours, let me know when it's running. Could you send me via email your version of the database??
Of course, since my probs I have let it slip so I need to recapp all that happened.

I did complete a site, wwwcdsservices.co.uk you might be interested in taking a look.However I did most of the work in Photoshop and Fireworks, then sent in to Dreamweaver to finish off. I think some one has messed with it though, You'll see what I mean if you see it.

regards

Terry

Hi Terry

The database in the book is straight forward, they were missed within the recordsets, that was the real problem to get the pages to show, ie words missing and @ missing I looked at that site and it just seems to be a seerver page...
